in culpeper and fredericksburg and waldorf and the eastern shore soon. i have not seen snowflakes in rocklin yet, but there are some snow flurries on their way. loudoun county, fauquier county, prince william stafford, charles, prince george's, anne arundel, dancewear we will see close to a half-inch. i remind you of there are a few areas that still have flooding issues. small rivers and creeks going within their banks later today. despite warnings in loudoun, jefferson, morgan, so be careful. wind chills in the upper 20's, low 30's. expect another breezy day. sunshine will be back for the afternoon. the weekend, half and half. the weekend forecast in a few

minutes. first, from the belfort furniture weather center, steve hershorn. i see a lot of salt on the roads. >> here we are in montgomery county on 355 wisconsin ave as it becomes rockville pike. there's an accident blocking the ramp from northbound 355 onto the inner loop of the beltway. police are there. watch for that very early. not causing a delay, but you will be detour away from the ramp. the beltway near the american legion bridge looks pretty good right now. no problems around the beltway in maryland or virginia. back to you. >> thank you. now to the weather problems in the city of laurel. it is flooding. the good news is the waters are starting to receive from the patuxent river. >> the commuter lot by the marc trains station on lafayette avenue and riverfront park will

reopen. jay korff has more. it is scary. >> hundreds of laurel, maryland, residents living near the river face a voluntary evacuation order. the water has already crept into backyards. >> it's probably 5 feet of water. >> the frustration is not limited to the storm system. residents and city officials believe the majority of the flooding was caused after wssc opened floodgates upstream, a decision that water company officials say they were forced to do to protect the integrity of the dam. >> . wanted to open up the gates -- they decided to open up the gates a couple days in advance. >> they did not communicate as best as they could half. correct the fast-moving river took more than a dozen commuters by surprise. >> unbelievable. >> drivers were warned not to

a woman apparently drowned when floodwaters inundated a homeless camp near laurel. a former coalculpeper police officer, his conviction could be thrown out by a judge if there was jury tmisconduct. and police are looking for a man who tried to kidnap and sexually assaulted a d.c. girl. she was let go after a struggle. it's we have a school delay. washington county public schools in virginia have announced they will be on the two hour delay due to the weather today. this is hillary clinton's last day as secretary of state. later this morning she will attend a meeting at the white house. around 2:30 she will leave her office for the final time. her successor, senator john kerry, will be sworn in later

today. a rough day on capitol hill for president obama's defense secretary nominee chuck hagel. during his confirmation hearings, he faced intense grilling from republicans. >> were you correct or incorrect and you said that the surge would be the most dangerous part policy blunder in this country since vietnam? yes or no? >> my preference -- >> are you evading the question? >> republicans repeatedly questioned him about a study that he co-authored to call for an 80% cut in u.s. nuclear weapons. he has most democrats on this side. a confirmation vote for him next week. it could be a difficult weekend for thousands of metro riders. orange line trains will not be running between the federal centers southwest and cheverly. trains will not be running between federal center southwest and benning road.

morning snow showers today it 9:00 or so, and becoming partly cloudy and windy, temperature between 33 and 37. partly sunny skies tomorrow, 35. we will see snow showers again on sunday morning. i think we could see a little more on sunday than today. the seven-day forecast, and by the way tomorrow is groundhog's day. temperatures obama a little by the latter part of next week. a couple of weeks systems bring snow showers feeling much more like winter. -- temperatures increasing a little by the latter part of the week. coa>> between dumphries and the prince william parkway, the hov gates are slow to open it. so it's getting pretty heavy. gradually the gates are open from north to south from the
